Belly Dancers For Charity was founded
in February 2010 after the Haitian earthquake. Then known as Belly Dancers For
Haiti, we raised money for the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, in a show called "SHAKE FOR THE QUAKE." It received media attention from the local newspapers and TV
news.
Why stop with just one
show?
Later that year, we did a fundraiser for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, which is a disease that I was
diagnosed with over seven years ago. The event, "BREATHE" was written up in our
local papers, and I was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the
PFF.
In April 2011, "SOUNDS FOR THE
HOUNDS" was our most successful show to date, for the New Rochelle Humane Society. More than 40
dancers performed to a sold out crowd of over 120 people.
Our events are very family oriented,
and we encourage members of all ages to attend our shows. They have been attended by several political figures, including NYS Senator Suzi Oppenheimer and New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson. Our many supporters include members of the political, creative, medical and religious communities.
Many local businesses, service organizations, and creative individuals have been extremely generous with their donations of items to be raffled off at our fundraisers.
We are honored to have some of the area's best belly dancers perform at our events, and they contribute so much to the success of our fundraisers, as do some of the best volunteers I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
What started out as a good idea has developed into a passion which allows us to combine the ancient art of belly dance with the opportunity to give support and exposure to some wonderful organizations.
